The story behind it
In November 1776, off Cape Breton Island, Captain John Paul Jones of the Continental Navy captured the British transport Mellish, which was carrying about 10,000 winter uniforms meant for British troops in Canada. John Paul Jones called it the most valuable prize yet taken by the American side, and the warm clothing went to the rebels instead.
