About this design

The story behind it
The 1876 race for the White House was so close and so disputed that Congress set up a special Electoral Commission to settle 20 contested electoral votes. Rutherford B. Hayes won 185 to 184 and was declared the winner on March 2, 1877, nearly four months after Election Day.
