The story behind it
In a famous English novel from 1890, a handsome young man in London has his portrait painted and makes a wish: let the painting grow old instead of him. The wish comes true. He stays young and flawless for years, while the portrait, hidden in a locked room at the top of the house, takes on every year and every bad deed.
