The story behind it
In Stave Three of Charles Dickens's 1843 A Christmas Carol, the Ghost of Christmas Present is a jolly giant in a deep green robe bordered with white fur, with a holly wreath on his long dark-brown curls. He carries a glowing torch shaped like Plenty's horn and sits on a throne of turkeys, geese, plum puddings and other feast foods before showing the story's hero how people are keeping Christmas that very night.
