About this design
A tricorn hat, a spade and a rolled-up plan.
The story behind it
Tadeusz Kościuszko was a Polish-Lithuanian military engineer who arrived in Philadelphia in August 1776 and offered his skills to the American cause as a volunteer. Congress made him a colonel of engineers that October. He worked on the Delaware River defenses near Philadelphia, designed the American defenses at Saratoga in 1777, and from 1778 fortified West Point, including its great chain across the Hudson River.
