About this design
A white cap, a long rammer and a cannon still smoking.
The story behind it
On November 16, 1776, during the British attack on Fort Washington in Manhattan, Margaret Corbin took over her fallen husband's cannon and kept firing until she was badly wounded. In 1779 the Continental Congress granted her half a soldier's pay for life, making her the first woman to receive a military pension from Congress.
