About this design

The story behind it
In the 1883 Italian storybook, a woodcarver makes a puppet a flowered paper suit, shoes of tree bark and a cap of bread dough, and the puppet's nose grows whenever he tells a lie. The author, who lived from 1826 to 1890, first published the tale as a magazine serial in 1881.
